The Rev. James A. Perryman, Sr., formerly of Weston, GA and presently residing in Louisville, KY, is the oldest son of the late Claudie Mae and Melbourne Perryman. He has five brothers, Willie B. Perryman, Jessie B. Perryman both of Cuthbert, GA, Melvin Perryman of Benevolence, GA, The Rev. Mark Perryman, of Fayetteville, NC and Arthur Edwards of Lumpkin, GA. Two brothers, Johnny and Charles Perryman, are deceased. He is the father of three children, James Perryman Jr., Theresia Perryman-Smith, and Tiffeney Perryman-Poynter, he has two sons-in-law, The Rev. Frank M. Smith, Jr. and The Rev. K'Yon Poynter, one granddaughter, Machaiah and three grandsons, K'YAndre, Timothy, and Jayson. He is a former member of the New Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Weston, GA and is currently a member of the West Chestnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville, KY.
Rev. Perryman is the Pastor of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and has been there for 26 years. The Rev. C. Mackey Daniels and the West Chestnut Church family installed Rev. Perryman at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in 1981. He has also served as the youngest Chaplain and Religious Supervisor for the Metropolitan Louisville and Jefferson County Corrections Department for 7 ½ years. He is the conductor of the most listened to program on Radio which is "The Perryman's Gospel Hour, heard Monday through Friday from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM on WLLV 1240 AM. Rev. Perryman also is the conductor of Moments of Concern heard each Sunday Morning on Radio Station WLOU 1350 AM all in Louisville, KY. He has served as Chaplain and was a member of the Mid-America College of Funeral Service Student Council.
Rev. Perryman is the former Vice President of The Perkins Funeral Home in Cuthbert, GA. After serving over 15 years in the Mortuary field in one of the most respected and prestigious African American funeral homes in the Metropolitan area, Rev. Perryman on his own, seeked to serve his community with ideas he could use to fulfill all those in need by purchasing his own family owned and operated and independent funeral home. He is the Owner and Manager of Perryman's Mortuary, the third largest mortuary (funeral home) in Louisville and Jefferson County, KY. He is a lifetime member of the NAACP, a member of the Independent Funeral Directors Association, a member of the Independently Owned Funeral Home Association, a licensed Funeral Director for the State of Kentucky, a licensed Embalmer for the State of Kentucky, ordained a Deacon in 1969 and was licensed as a Gospel Minister in 1972, and ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 1975 at the West Chestnut Street Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. G. K. Offutt.
Rev. Perryman graduated from Henderson High School in 1970, attended Andrew College where he was a member of the Yearbook Staff, attended Kentucky School of Mortuary Science, attended University of Louisville, attended Jefferson Community College/University of Kentucky, a graduate of Simmons University and Bible College with Bachelor of Theology Degree in 1978, a 1981 graduate of Mid-America College of Funeral Service, a graduate of Simmons University and Bible College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1983.
